CLAIM PROCESS
The Claim Process
We know the claims process may feel overwhelming.
Following these 4 steps and using the Claim Form Guides will allow you to work through the claim-filing process.

(1) Determine Eligibility
Use the Eligibility Checker to verify eligibility for compensation.
Eligible Primary Class Members are individuals who were placed in private homes during the period of September 1, 1951 and June 30, 1992, to attend school, not including placements for post-secondary education.
Individuals placed after June 30, 1992, are also included if Canada was responsible for their placement.
People who were placed in private homes, but died on or after July 24, 2016, may also be eligible, and their estate can apply on their behalf.
(2) Select the Claim Form Category
There are two claim form categories that relate to the Indian Boarding Homes Class Action Program – Category 1 and Category 2.
Each claim category serves a purpose in determining eligibility and settlement compensation for a claimant.
Category 1
The Category 1 claim form is used to claim placement in the Indian Boarding Homes Program.
This claim form must be submitted by all claimants.
Category 2
The Category 2 claim form is used to claim abuse while in the Indian Boarding Homes Program.
This is an optional claim form.
(3) Choose the Appropriate Claim Form

After identifying the category, select the claim form the best serves your needs:
- • Form A1 and/or A2
- Filing for yourself, or a lawyer filing for a Primary Class Member.
- • Form B1 and/or B2
- A Personal Representative for someone with a disability, or a lawyer filing on their behalf.
- • Form C1 and/or C2
- Filing for someone who has passed away, or a lawyer representing their estate.
(4) Use the Claim Form Guide

The Claim Form Guides are helpful tools that walk claimants through the claim filing process with detailed instructions and audio, links to resources, and access to support.
There is a guide to accompany each type of claim form.
Claim form guides are found when clicking into each category above.
